An Air India passenger got a mile-high shock after being called an 'idiot' by the in-flight entertainment unit.
The bizarre incident happened on board a recent flight from London to New Delhi, the Times of India reported.
The female passenger, whose identity was not revealed, said she tried to watch a movie about 5 hr. into the flight but the entertainment unit wouldn't work properly.
She adjusted the switches and buttons, at 1st with no response. The next thing she knew, a rather rude message popped up on the screen.
At the top it read: "The selection is not currently available. Please try again." The message continued towards the bottom of the screen: "Lie low ... Sit down you idiot!"
The passenger complained to cabin crew and took a photo of the screen, which kept going blank. She said an airline employee apologized.
It's unclear exactly why the message popped up, with airline sources speculating it's only possible it was the handiwork of a disgruntled or mischievous employee.
An Air India spokesperson said the incident is being investigated but it appears to be an unfortunate coincidence: "Our investigation indicates that it was the English subtitle of a Hindi movie that the lady passenger was watching, which froze on the screen when the server went offline. The matter has been taken up with the concerned authorities for rectification."
However, the messages at the top and bottom of the screen appeared to be in the same font, making it more likely to be some techie’s idea of a joke.
