As you know, I have four weddings to attend in three countries in one month this July.
As I wrote about last week, this entire venture looks like it will cost me just under $14,000. $7000 of this is accounted for in flights and car rentals between Niece, Detroit and Toronto. After I wrote this post, Kirsty from Flight Center contacted me via Twitter to let me know she could check around to see if she could find me a better deal. Being someone who fancy’s themselves fairly web savvy, I thought, how great a deal could she really find?
With the availability of do it yourself sites like Expedia.ca, Priceline.com, and Hotels.com, I haven’t used a travel agent in eons. To be honest, I don’t think I have ever used a travel agent. Maybe my parents did but that would have been ages ago! I have always spent hours perusing sites, comparing deals, putting together the best package because I was under the impression I could do it best and for less.
After being contacted by Kirsty Connolly from Flight Center, I am changing my tune.
Within a few hours of posting this (thank you Twitter) she let me know she could look around and source some travel options. I agreed, thinking it would take her as long as it normally took me. Translation - I didn’t expect to hear from her for a few days. Within minutes she got back to me with a travel plan to fly from Toronto to Niece, Niece to Detroit and Detroit to Toronto for $1580 TAXES IN!!! That’s a savings of $5420!!! Not to mention how much time she saved me by not to look for it myself! I suppose this is why one uses travel agents.
You wouldn’t fix your plumbing if you didn’t know what you were doing no matter how much do-it-yourself stuff was available at Home Depot. So what makes making travel plans any different? I am certainly at fault for not using travel agents but after being privy to this, I’m taking a new direction. I love saving money but I also love saving time and Kirsty managed to do both… and on such a whim! There was no guarantee I’d purchase my flights from her or Flight Center and yet she went out her way regardless. Doesn’t that make you want to work with someone that much more?
I haven’t met Kirsty, I have never used Flight Center, but I just wanted to say thank you for reaching out. It’s was sincerely appreciated.
